Got a late start but hit the water just before 6 p.m. with my son. Started on the edge of the Timber and worked the shoreline with poppers and crank baits. The popper was the big producer. Caught 12 fish and all but a few in that 16-18 inch range. Fished looked very healthy and fought hard. This is a one of my favorite lakes in the club but have never caught anything bigger than 18-19 inches. It would seem if there was a lake that would hold trophies it would be this one. What is the lake record?

Hey Jack,

Glad you had a good evening.  I couldn't agree more.  This lake should be kicking out a periodic double digit.  I think the lake record is 9 lbs but I'm not sure where I got that number.  I'm fairly certain it's what was reported to our fearless leader.  I had a few fish in the mid 6s but can't seem to hook into anything larger than that.  It wouldn't surprise me to see something big come out of here eventually.

Hi Jack,

Jackson is correct. The large fish reported was a fish in the high 9's, caught 2 years ago by a long time member. He caught in on a POP R in very shallow water during the spawn. As you might expect, we do not hear about all the big fish. For example a 13.3 was caught at Yates Place 2 months ago. Never heard about it, until a birdie told me. Personally, II have caught dozens of fish over 5.5 lbs at Timber but nothing over 7 lbs. I did receive this e-mail from an anonymous member who recently fished Timber Lake but does not like to post.

Thanks Steve.  On a side note about Timber Lake.  The 2 pounders were the healthiest I have seen in three years there.   My 5.5 pounder I caught yesterday was healthier than in the past.  We culled about 12 fish.  Could have probably culled 23 of 27 we caught.  I hope we can get these little guys out and give the big boys a shot to grow.
