First time to Deer Trail and First trip in my new native watercraft. The lake is in great shape, the fishing was fair for being hot as it was. The best part of the trip was the animal watching. Five 300 pound plus hogs came down to the lake, waded out a foot or two from the bank and started eating the water plants. I paddled over to within 20 feet and they were never bothered. ( GoPro purchased Sunday). They left after 45 min, then hour later 6 deer came down to drink. Also the burger at the general store is good, and bring the cook a Dallas newspaper.

Richard,
Great report and you are so right. There is so much more than just catching fish when you are at one of our properties. Sometimes we forget to appreciate the sheer beauty of what God has created. I remember a post that member Bob Lundin posted many years ago about a property no longer in the club called Clifton Breezy Hill Ranch. Bob did such a great job of articulating why Private Water Fishing properties were so much more than fishing. Like you, Bob so appreciated the wildlife. I believe he saw deer, geese, a raccoon and a skunk all in the same trip. There are nature photographers and bird watchers who pay money to access properties like ours just to view the wildlife. Thanks for taking the time to write your report and glad you got to appreciate so much more than a "just fishing".
