Fished from 6 until 11:30 AM. Very similar to my last trip here last year.  I spent about 3.5 hours touring the lake, hitting the dam, the flats, the shallows, and caught four fish from 1-3 lbs on weightless or TX rig plastics.  Then I made the move and took the boat to the outer edge of the tree field, on the side opposite the dam, and began throwing a medium diving Lucky crank bait.  Wham!  Caught 3 fish in 5 casts, from 1-3 lbs.  Switched to a root beet Norman DD-14 and added six more, the largest weighing exactly 5 lbs.  This girl took me deep into the weeds, and I had to pull her up steady and haul aboard a weed pile about as big as a Christmas tree with her in the middle of it.

Moral of the story:  To fish Malouf, pack a good stout 7 foot rod with at least 14 lb test Copolymer line, and about 4-5 medium crankbaits, and get ready for some fun action!  Bring a few worms, lizards, and senkos to change the pace, but don't waste all day with them.

Very nice report, James. Glad you caught some nice ones. What color worms and cranks were successful?

Thanks, Tom.  On the crankbaits, they hit a light chartreuse and black Lucky pretty hard, but I had a couple short strikes and lost them.  The root beer DD-14 they hit very hard.  I think I used that color last trip, but I think anything that matches a bluegill would work.  On the plastics, a watermelon green Yum 8-inch ribbontail works well there.  The water was clear to 5-6 feet, so subtle colors are good.
