Went fishing on 03/28/15 with my brother in law Jose and a friend names Joe. They drove in from Houston and we all met there. We arrived on 03/27/15 and camped out. As soon as we arrived we assessed the water and recon the lake. We made adjustment on our gear and prepped for an all day fishing trip. We got up at 0630 and were in the water by 0700. Water temperature was steady 60-64 all day. I managed to break my own record from a previous Lake Fork trip of 8.25lb bass. At Hat and Star I managed to pull 2-6lbers and one whopping 9.5lber all in the same section. All came out of a grass area sticking out of the water about 3 feet from the edge. I pitched my Texas rigged rage craw “bama” over the grass and worked it slow through the grass line and as soon as it crossed it was battling time. Bites were extremely subtle and felt like a thump but a soon as that thump was felt, the fight was on. All 3 hogs were caught within a 30 minute window. This lake is a serious lake and lines need to be tight, hooks sharp, and you need to be well rested. They will fight. I will let Jose and Joe post their experience. I will return.

The 2 6lbers happened so fast and in the same exact spot, we actually thought I caught the same one twice. We later compared pics and turns out it was a different one. I’m still in shock.

Way to go, Humberto! You had a great day in a half-hour with those three fish, and that 9.5 is a real beauty - congratulations!

Joel….I sure didn’t. Honestly I didn’t know about it.  I’ll definitely be looking out for any other upcoming events.

Phillip, Thanks. Yes the wrap is for the sun and wind but mostly sun. I hate getting burned. I can go all day fishing and comfort is a big thing for me. I do wear over the nose but I pull it down at times because when you have shades like the ones I’m wearing, they tend to fog up as your breathing. I wear the wrap because it covers neck, cheeks and nose. I’ve used different ones but Columbia makes an awesome one that doesn’t irritate the skin.

Outstanding trip! I really need to get out there! Two 6# in 30 minutes would bend my mind!

Philip: the wrap is typically called a 'Buff' and almost all of the kayak fishermen I know use them. They are available at Academy and many tackle shops. As a former skin cancer patient, I highly recommend them!
