Fingerling
I fished Gilmer today with Tom Dillon. The water is high as I have ever seen it, and the wind blew. It was tough sledding. Fished hard all day and since I am looking for my first double digit bass, I mainly threw big fish baits: jig and craw trailer (got hung up constantly in the timber), pitching rig with craw, texas rigged lizard, texas rigged craw. Not even a bump on any of those rigs. I caught 2 fish on a wacky rigged Senko, and 2 fish…...one bass and a nice crappie…..on a chatterbait with split tail trailer.
Tom had better success, catching a 6 plus pounder on his first cast of the day into a brush pile. But, he also caught only a few fish. I will let him add his own report to this.
I am camping tonight and fishing tomorrow again for a full day with Joel Conner. Hopefully the bite will be a little more aggressive.

The highlight of the day for me was getting to meet and fish with Marty - what a terrific guy! As he wrote above, I caught a 6-11 on my first cast and jinxed myself the rest of the day. It WAS tough out there. The early morning calm was replaced by a south wind of probably 15-20 mph, although it was variable. Sure was nice to fish in sunshine again, though! I did manage to catch a 3-12 on a hollow-body frog out of the flooded vegetation provided by the high water. Missed a couple of others on a frog, and missed 2 on my "go-to" Wacky Senko. Caught one 13" fish on a 'trap. The 6-11 was 23.25" long, and had not spawned. It hit a Brush Hog. The 3-12 was either spawed out or a big male. I had no luck on spinnerbait, jig & pork, jig & craw, C-rigged worm, tailspinner, structure spoon, Zara Spook, T-rigged worm, squarebill, or Senko. Hopefully, Marty and Joel will have better luck tomorrow.
