Fished JerMar on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, staying overnight at the cabin with my wife. Jerry, the landowner, was a very gracious host and checked in on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed and that the cabin was satisfactory. It was! Jerry even brought us some donuts on Friday morning and offered to let us out of the reservation due to the weather, but we hadn't driven that far to not fish!
The fishing was rather slow, which was not too unexpected with the water temp at 52 - 57 degrees. Skies were overcast both days and we fished in a cold rain for 3 hours on Friday morning before calling it off. I caught 3 on a Red Rat-L-Trap on Thursday afternoon and lost 4 others; none of the fish were "eating" the bait, just reacting to it and barely getting hooked. On Friday morning fellow member Cliff Holloway joined me and we boated 7 fish total, most of which were caught on shaky head worms. We lost 2 or 3 others near the boat. I had one large fish take a shaky head in shallow water and head for deep water, popping my line in the process. I never got to look at her. I had just re-tied and it didn't appear to be a knot problem; may have had a nick in the line, but she was a big fish either way! All of the fish were very healthy and fought outside of their weight class… fun!
This was our first time staying at a club property and we really enjoyed ourselves. We made the short drive into Howe for dinner at My Estrella on Thursday night and drove up to Sherman to look around and pick up a few necessities (Red-Eyed Shad, jigs, etc.). Cliff's wife and mine went into Sherman on Friday morning for breakfast at the IHOP and shopping, so they had a good time. The cabin was nicely constructed and slept comfortably. We're looking forward to returning to JerMar in a few weeks as the water warms up!
