Spent all day Friday on Timber Lake in the rain, but at least it wasn't cold. I caught only one fish all day, and it didn't hit until 2:27 pm. It weighed 4 lbs and hit a chartreuse/blue single-spin with a chartreuse blade next to flooded (usually on dry land) grass in less than 2' of water. Caught the bass WAY back in the south creek. I had no idea it went that far back. The water all over the lake was between 55° and 56°, and the visibility was only 8-12" everywhere. Th lake is full, and the access road was flooded in places, but manageable with all-wheel drive. Sure was glad of the "new" gravel at the ramp. Grass is coming up from the bottom in quite a few places, but hasn't broken the surface yet. No luck on traps; T-, C-, or wacky-rigged plastics of any kind; jerkbaits; squarebills; jig & pork; or topwater, as I expected. I did see a few suspended fish (bass, I presume, for they were big) on my new DI graph. When it warms up, this lake should be as good as ever. I did have a HUGE female bald eagle fly over me once. Beautiful sight at less than 100 feet away.

I forgot to mention that from Highway 154/19 about halfway (or more) to Sulphur Bluff, the road (Hwy 71) is under construction. Yesterday, it was mostly mud, and my Forester, pond boat, and trailer looked like I'd been four-wheeling in mud for a couple of weeks. If you're going to be fishing either Timber Lake or Deer Trail Ranch, do yourself a favor. After you turn north on 154/19, take the first right toward Mahoney. When you get to Mahoney, turn left onto Hwy 69 and take it all the way to Sulphur Bluff. It's a little farther, and there are some sharp turns in and near Dyke, but at least it's paved all the way. At Sulphur Bluff, turn left onto 71 and then right to the lakes.
