My son and I spent the early morning anticipating a topwater bite. We started fishing with torpedoes, but after a rather slow start we changed tactics. I took the opportunity of a slower day to introduce my son to fishing soft plastics. Rather than fishing myself I spent most of the morning teaching my son and keeping the boat positioned for him. After about an hour and missing several fish he finally hooked into one. What I witnessed was an epic battle between my son and the largest fish he has ever caught. It will certainly go down as one of my favorite fishing moments ever. We did not have a scale, but it was a really nice fish (see photo).  All in all we landed 7 fish, 6 in the 14 to 16 range and the big one. A great way to end the summer indeed!

Wow!! That is a big fish. His arms are not extended, the fish is thick across the shoulders and has bug eyes. Fish sizes are hard to gauge in pictures but that fish looks 8 lbs or larger. But I love the way your son is supporting the belly of the fish with his hand. You have taught him well!!

One of the best looking fish I've seen in the club. Maybe not the biggest, but still huge! Great color and a giant head. Congrats!
