Was on the water at Ferris at sunup and within the first two hours boated 8 fish over 17" with the largest exceeding 21". All were caught on zara spooks and frogs. Water level was up from the last time I was here in March.  When the topwater bite slowed down I moved to the north end of the lake where I have always had success with shallow diving crankbaits.  To my surprise I was getting caught in the weeds on every cast.  I had never experienced this before. I always bring a lighter rod to troll for crappie in the middle of the lake and was unable to do this because of the  weeds.    I had to pull my motor up at least six times to clear the weeds out of my prop.  As many times as I have fished this lake  this is the first time I have had to do this.  This remains a great fishing lake but what could have caused this explosion of vegetation?

Fishing at Ferris Triple J has been great for the past 4 years. In fact, we have one member who just completed his 19 trip this year to this lake this year. He is on pace to fish this lake 30 times in 2014.

The addtional grass is probably caused for two reasons. 1) There are no cattle using the lake, The lake is only 10 acres and the cattle kept the water stirred up; which reduced light. The lack of light reduced the plant growth. 2) We also did not fertilize this year. Since the water was not fertile (dark green) instead (clear). Clear water + warm water+nutrients=aquatic vegetation.
