My wife and I were on the water by 7am - lake full with clarity to 5’.  Topwater bites on green hula popper with remaining bass caught on any color worm thrown.  Threw rattletraps, crankbaits, roostertail, and spinner with no luck.  Boated 9 bass ranging from 15” - 18”.  Lost 5 near the boat.  Need to check line size.  All fish were caught 5’ - 10’ from bank on edge of grass at NE arm of lake.  Fish were literally doing somersaults out of the water over the entire lake until we left at noon!  I’ve never seen anything quite like this.  One of the largest bass was caught with the flyrod on a white popper at the dock.  As I was reeling him in, another bass just as large was following him to the bank. Saw a lot of coppernose bluegill at the dock, but were unable to hook up.  My wife and I enjoyed our time on the lake and the weather was perfect considering it’s July.  It’s good to see the fish are back at Six-0!

My wife, 5 year old daughter and myself fished the morning of the 4th of July with the same results. Took my daughter in the boat for a ride with no rods but saw bass coming out of the water by a foot or more on several occasions. First thought it was carp till I saw a few up close. We mainly fished off the dock since the trip was centered around my daughter. Caught about 8 fish from the dock on senkos and a worm. Was interesting to see them all measure over the 14” minimum. I took a cooler full of ice for a co-worker who is always begging me for fish. I couldn’t produce any short ones this time. I also couldn’t get any perch to bite for my daughter but she was happy to reel in the scrappy bass we caught.

Thanks for taking the time to post your results.

Next time you take your daughter buy a loaf of fresh white bread.  Roll little balls about pea size put on a size 8 hook.  Get the cheapest bread.  To get the feeding frenzy going throw some bread balls in before putting your line in.  Anyplace that has gills they love bread.  China grove is another spot you can catch a 100 gills on bread in an afternoon. China Grove in the late afternoon - early evening you can catch channel cats on bread balls.  Again get the frenzy going and the cats will show up.

Last time I was at Six-O there was a million grasshoppers jumping all around the dock area. Catch a few of those and put on your hook and I guarantee big copper nose.

Grasshoppers area great idea. I would not have my kids running around catching hoppers. Why run the risk when white bread is 99 cents at Walmart.  Just a thought as not everyone is aware of their surroundings.  OK I’ll get off my soapbox. Remember to crimp the barb on the hook just in case someone catches themselves or a brother or sister.
