A guest and I fished Timber lake for 5 1/2 hours on Saturday afternoon 6/28.  We caught 15 Bass, 3 of which we harvested.  The biggest was 5 pounds with another 5 in the 3-4 pound range.  Mid diving and deep diving crank baits worked the best.  Not a huge number of fish, but nice size.  Did catch a 14 pound Catfish that was a lot of fun to land.  We used the landowner’s v-bottom boat with seats which worked very nice for the two of us.

It’s really funny you mentioned this Rick.  I was there last Wednesday and foul hooked a 20 pound catfish in the tail down at the dam on a DD22.  Having it hooked in the tail it seemed like a 40 pounder with what felt like head shaking as well.  It had it’s way with me for over five minutes until I could finally get it in.  Having fished Timber Lake as many times as I have over the last few years I figured I would have caught a catfish long before now.  I would have told you there weren’t any in there. Well I was wrong and I all but had TP&WL on the phone to come certify the new state record when I finally got the mammoth beast in to the boat and saw it.  My heart was racing, I was out of breath, and my ego was wounded!  :)

Glad you had a good day out there.

Forgot to mention…..  Flipping red craws is still advised.  It’s not working quite as well as it did last year but still good for quite a few bites.  Here’s one my guest caught that still had part of the crawdad being digested.  We had ours Texas rigged with half ounce weights.

Tight lines,
