My dad and I fished Timber Lake on Saturday. Despite a mostly sunny forecast, we had completely overcast skies the entire morning and a perfect 5-10mph southern wind. Starting out, we didn’t catch anything along the bank, but once we hit the timber, we had not one, not two, but three different line breaks on some solid fish. We ended up harvesting 9 under the limit, and threw back 20. Great fighters all, and while we didn’t catch any monsters, we had several in the 3lb range. Speaking of which, we noticed about 3 or 4 of the larger fish we caught had red “pimples” on their bodies and tails.
The favorite lure of the day was a Senko, followed by a Fluke and a chrome Rat-L-Trap. Tried crankbaits along the edge of the timber line, but didn’t get a single hit. Only caught two on topwater.
This was my first experience at Timber Lake, it was excellent and I can’t wait to go back. Just wish they would move the lake about an hour closer to the Metroplex!

The red pimples are a lesion of some sort. Lesions are usually a sign of stress. Lesions are common in fish populations. In most cases once the stressers are removed then the fish recover nicely. Lesions do not effect the meat of the fish are are safe to eat.
With 3 line breaks, it is time to re-spool with fresh line or use 15 lb mono/flouro or 50 lb+ braid. The line maybe breaking at the knot. Don’t forget to get the line wet before cinching down your knot.
