We made the long haul from Dallas yesterday afternoon. We were on the water by 2pm and fished until 7:30ish. We got the crap kicked out of us by the wind right from the jump. It was so bad we mostly fished the coves just to get some relief.

We caught 6 total fish in 5.5 hours. I caught four(3 dinks and a 4.2 pounder) all on an old fashion Texas rig purple and blue worm. My guest caught two, one of which was a monster. The scale read 8.3 but I think my scale might be off. I swear that thing looked and felt like a solid 10 pounder. His other fish weighed in at 3.6. He caught both on a bass assassin. sort of a motor oil and white color.

Overall it was a long hard day but seeing my friend catch the biggest bass he’s ever caught made the trip worthwhile.

No I couldn’t find my tape in time before I thought we should get the fish back in the water.

A Beast for sure. Way to go. I’m still awaiting that 10 pounder myself! We definitely have some club lakes that can make this goal a reality. Hat and Star has to be one of the club lakes on that short list.

Many frequent Bass fishermen will never catch a 8+ pounder…

Be Proud!

Tight lines to all…

That is a beast for sure!  Tell your buddy to extend those arms to grow the fish!  Steve taught me that trick in Mexico last year - Doesn’t help the scale weight, but makes for a great picture.  Fish On!

Is it just me or are the Hat and Star fish the meanest looking fish in the club.  Go back and look at Shaun Cobb’s…...  Same thing.  Mean looking fish!

Great catch you guys.

Great fish, Jason.  If you don’t have a scale with you, always carry a cloth measuring tape because there’s a formula to use that comes very close to the actual weight.  Measure the girth and square it.  Then multiply that number by the length.  Then, divide by 800.  I’ve done it a few times to check this formula against a scale and came within one ounce of the scale-weight of the fish.

No way that’s a single-digit bass.
