Slot Fish
Member John Bedore and I had a chance to fish San Saba for the first time this past Sunday and Monday morning. The weather conditions were horrible 30 mph hour winds and 52 degrees and overcast with the temperature dropping steadily throughout the day. The fish were very aggressive and very shallow. We caught 72 on Sunday on chatterbaits, swimbaits and lipless crankbaits. On Monday we only fished for a couple of hours before returning home but faced below freezing lows and calm winds. The fish had been hit hard for several days but were still active and still aggressive.
We managed to catch 84 for the trip with only 6 culls. The fish were averaging about 4 pounds with many over 5.
We did get to meet the landowner and were impressed with how committed he is to protecting the resources of the ranch and preserving the beauty of this beautiful ranch. Nice guy!
We saw Turkeys strutting along the shoreline, too many ducks to count and a bald eagle catch a small fish and fly away to eat. What a great outing!

Keep sending the reports on Saba as I and member Chuck Sullivan will be fishing there the end of March.
