My family was coming to town for the RV show so I booked this past Sunday to finally get my brother out to Timber Lake. I’ve told him numerous times about the nice stringers we catch out there. Chris and I fished out of my boat and member Brian Long used one of the boats out there until 11 o’clock when Chris had to start heading home. We ended the day with right at 50 bass which sounds like a lot but it sure didn’t feel like that many. We hit the water just after sun up and quickly found out that the techniques that worked for us last time weren’t going to work this trip. I only caught one fish on a jerk bait, zero on a top water and got skunked on crank baits, spoons, jigs and swim baits. Once we slowed down, and I mean REALLY slowed down, the fish would bite. Texas rigged and weightless plastics caught most of the fish with just a few stragglers on other baits. Green soft plastics of all varieties were the ticket but the most important thing was to fish shallow and retrieve really slowly. The final four or five hours we were averaging about one fish each, per hour, which is maybe why it didn’t feel like as good a day as it was. My brother left very happy at lunchtime with almost twenty fish and this nice 5.2 pounder.
We culled eight and the water temps were 59 degrees when we left. Another great day on the beautiful Timber Lake.

Hey Phillip,
The lake is still down about that far but some rain is in the forecast so let’s hope for a little swing in the water level. As far as the name change, I’ve only got one more trip out there and it isn’t for many more weeks. I may slip into a little depression.
Yes there is still a 14 inch slot in place. The fish in the picture looks nice but there are quite a few that are looking thin for this time of year. Speaking of…. I need the harvest report updated to show that we culled eleven fish instead of the eight I reported. Brian cleaned them that night and informed me that I don’t know how to count very well. ;)
