We all know about the fish in Timber Lake. No need to go on about that, but I thought I’d pass along an update on conditions.
Water temp was 53 degrees. Lake level was down about 4 feet from full pool. While there’s plenty of water in this lake, it would be nice to get some rain before the spawn starts. I had my kayak with me and went way back into both creeks. With the water level low, it’s going to be tough to get deep in either creek once the fish move up. There are several laydowns that extend all the way across each creek channel that are just an inch or so below the surface. My kayak got over them ok, but it will be tough in a buster and impossible in a jon boat. In general, it’s tight back there with the lower water. There’s also a really nice, large flat grassy areas in the east creek that will be underwater at full pool but is now dry. If we get some rain, this will be ideal spawning ground with the deep creek channel nearby. But we’ll need the lake to come up 2 - 3 feet before this can happen.
I didn’t find the number I was hoping for, but I did manage to boat this nice one which went 6.63 lbs and 22.5 inches. Beautiful fish but I think she could still put on some weight over the coming couple of weeks.
Love the new stone on the ramp!
