It started out as a normal Monday morning at work when I recieved a call that a buddy of mine was in town and wanted to go fish for a little bit. I naturally said I’ll book a spot now. Well he called and had to go back to work so I asked my brother to go since I had already booked the trip. We ended up at Gilmer Hat Star and since we have been fishing together since we were kids we had no problem emptying the water out of the boat and heading out for a few hours.
We fished all over the lake with just about everything in our tackle box and I had about 6 fish under the slot to keep and eat. So about an hour before we got ready to leave he picks up this 6” spoon and starts out in the 25’ of water by the damn and hooks what I thought was a BIG catfish. Well little did I know that so called catfish was an 11.70lbs bass!!! WoW! it was the biggest bass I have ever seen alive and in person! It was a huge suprise in the middle of December!!! Well we measured the length and girth and let her go before she stayed out to long and decided to catch a few more to have a mess of fish to eat that night. So about 20 minutes later and on the way in to put the boat up he hooks another TOAD yes on the same 6” spoon (which by the way we only had one of) and this time it was a 10lb monster!!! (9.99 according to Steve) In my book that’s a 10!! What a way to end a Monday!!!!

Happy for you. Monsters! Finally a report that did not have to do with ducks! My only trip there was my largest at the time - 8.6 pounder.
Hat and Star deserves another trip for sure!
