My son-in-law’s dad, Jim, was in town for Thanksgiving and wanted to fish, so we planned an afternoon at Jermar, one of my favorite places. Weather looked good (for late November) - sunny with a light SSE breeze with temps in the 50s. When we got there, we talked to some duck hunters that were there for the morning. They had done well.

We launched at 5 minutes before noon and I caught a fish on my second cast! Jim caught fish on his third and fourth casts! So we had boated 3 by noon! What a day this will be!!!

Well, it slowed considerably after that. Jim caught 10 total and 3 for me ( I was being a good host and let him catch most of the fish. ;-)) They were all healthy and scrappy, between 2 and 3 pounds, no big ones but no dinks either. Jim had two on a crank bait at once including a really big fish, but both got off at the boat.

Water was clear to 8 feet with lots of vegetation. But even with the vegetation and low water level (down about 4 feet), the big lake was very fishable with plenty of good places to fish.

I caught mine on an unweighted silver/flake Super Fluke and a crawfish-colored Chatterbait, Jim caught his on a chartreuse Chatterbait and various crawfish-colored medium depth crank baits. I tried a drop shot rig for the first time - no luck. Tried top waters at sunset - also no luck - too late in the year and too cold I guess. Best areas were along the east grass bed and just south of the big trees in the middle.

The boat was nice with upgraded swivel seats, an anchor and no leaks. The road has been improved and the property mowed not long ago, so the place is in great shape!
