Fingerling
Took PWF Member Rich Corcoran with me for the first time to Timber Lake and all he said all day long was “awesome…this lake is just awecome.” He is a former pro fisherman and couldn’t get over the clarity of the water, trees, laydowns, stickups, you name it. Every cast he made, he thought a 10-pounder was going to come out of the bottom and take his bait.He said the lake reminded him of the early days at Lake Fork. Anyway, we were bothered by a front going through and bluebird skies, but still managed to catch 16 bass (he caught 13 of them). I wasn’t denied the largest of the day though at 3.9. had on a larger bass but lost him. We had a heckofa time establishing a pattern until Rich put on a Big Bite Pro Series 5-inch Cain Thumper in SS shad color. And then the fun began. Water temp 68 degrees, air 70 degrees, 10mph winds. Saw about two dozen turkey buzzards siting on one tree, which we avoided because the limb could have broken and crashed into our jonboat. Also saw the biggest beaver either of us had ever seen, sitting atop the large truck tire in the open water near the normal launch area. He didn’t move all day as we made passes near his nap area. We launched at the opposite end of the dam with no problems at all, but you should have 4-wheel drive if the ground is wet.
All in all, another “awesome” day at Timber Bluff. We’ll definitely be back after deer season is over.
