Timber Lake is in the midst of its fall turnover. These cold nights, the recent rains and wind have the lake really stirred up. Visibility is back down in most of the lake to about two or three feet. The brownish, bubbly crud from the depths near the dam is swirling about and the very obvious thermocline visible on my electronics is completely gone. It has affected the fishing quite a bit. We’ve been consistently catching thirty to forty fish per trip these last few months and today we caught ten or twelve. The smaller fish (only three below fourteen inches) have begun gorging on bait and hopefully the bigger fish will show full bellies soon. The average fish size is still close to three pounds which is remarkable. The water temperature was at sixty three degrees this morning and when we ended at noon it was sixty five. What a huge change just a couple of weeks can make. The lake has caught four to six inches of water. The overflow pipe on the dam has about one third of its opening covered up. The grass appears to be shrinking back a bit or the rains just give it that appearance as the grass isn’t matted at the surface anymore. Launching was fairly easy because of the dry ground. Plan on working for the bites you get. It looks like a lot of folks are getting in one last trip before hunting season. We threw a lot of tackle and didn’t get any established pattern. As usual, the Pop-R caught the most and a Texas rig got the quality strikes.
Tight Lines,
Jackson
