Fished Six O Ranch from 6:30 to noon. Harvested 7 and released about that many. Similar to my last trip here on Memorial Day, the fish were schooling from the boathouse to the dam. This lasted from about 7AM and it was still going strong when we left at noon. I think this is some of the most sustained surface activity I have ever seen on any lake. I saw something similar once on another private lake and we caught over 200 bass, but it was not to be yesterday.
The shad are no better than an inch long. That and the water clarity here were probably the difference. The fish we caught were on tiny torpedos and rattle traps. I caught two small fish on a Yumbrella Flash Mob Jr. With some lighter tackle and lighter, smaller lures - perhaps it could have been much better.
I’m not sure what I would do on this lake without the help of schooling fish to target. Nothing else I’ve tried has worked. I fished the old tank dam and caught one decent fish (~3lb) on a Baby Paca Craw, but one would think that the all the deep water trees here would be productive.
I will be back, as the ranch is only 18 miles from my in-laws in Granbury. We fished the pontoon style boat which is great. Very stable with room to walk around and fish standing. Unlike the old fishing boat, the transom is solid and you don’t have to worry about your trolling motor torquing up and off into the lake on a turn. This boat could easily fish 3 adults. I modified my rudder with some wood shims which worked well. This rudder (from Pond King) works great on any of the club 2-man type boats - makes a huge difference in boat control.
I was a little surprised to drain my battery in a half day of fishing with almost no wind. This is my backup battery, so it could be an age deal, but I am curious if club members have found the regular size marine batteries to be adequate for a full day fishing (40lb thrust C2 Endura & typical 2-man or jon boat). So far I have only fished half day trips. I would prefer the weight of a standard battery, for the ease of loading/unloading. Recommendations please.

Phil,
I use the size 29 deep cycle battery. It is heavy though. I use a dolly to move it from garage to boat, and I have occasionally taken the dolly with me to use onsite or just lug it to the boat. Now I have a trailer so I load it at home.
The deep cycle batteries that I have seen come in size 24, 27, 29, and 31. I had a couple of 31s in our 22’ deck boat that we sold recently. The 29 does good for a half day but can get a little weak for a full day.
Occasionally I have used a spare for full days and switch about mid-day. I mainly fish half days. But of course it will depend on the wind, boat, number of fisherman, etc. I would go with the 29. Your problems at 6-O could be due to the drag of the pontoon. I have not seen that boat.
