Fished Triple J on Friday morning, 5/17, from 7:30 - Noon. It was cloudy for most of the morning. Tried buzzbaits first but only got short strikes. Then I tied on a small Zara Spook (Zara Puppy), suggested by an earlier report, and caught about 5 with one 20” 4+ lber. Caught most of these on the East side around the brush piles.
The wind changed from the East to the South, making it harder to present the spook. Caught a couple on a square bill crankbait, with one going 2.5 #s.
Caught nothing from about 9 - 10. Then caught another 5 on a med/deep diving crankbait (5 - 8’) in 7 - 14’ near the dam. Another 20.5” 4+ lber., and a 3 lber. Also caught 2 slab crappie and a small one on the crankbait.
The flooded standing timber on the NW corner is very shallow, maybe 18”. Pitched a few plastics but got nothing.
Ended up with 12 bass and 3 crappie (harvested). Had a decent day and I was impressed with the improvement in quality catches.
