Slot Fish
Timber Lake continues to fish well for those of you willing to drive out east a bit. It isn’t the best place for beginners due to the tricky casting required up in the creek channels but intermediates and above will love this place. Twice now I have found regurgitated crawdad in my livewell after a trip so I snapped a picture of it to show you what they are eating.
There is a soft plastic on the market by Zoom called the Salty Big Critter Craw in a pumpkin color with orange claws. It matches really well.
As Bryan talked about in his report, the fish are still up in the creeks. There are plenty of visible beds still in the shallows but I didn’t see anything other than bluegill on them. Invest in a scum frog before you go. Live Target and SPRO make great versions as well that you can pull across all of the broken timber and filamentous algae without getting hung up. Put it on braid…. Actually put everything on braid. Bright colors work the best and black got hit the least. Pop-R’s continue to be the best producing bait for me but when the bite shuts down move to flipping that craw around the timber. Just because you flipped three sides of a stump doesn’t mean there’s not a big girl on the fourth side. That happens to me quite a bit out there.
Water temps are above 70 now and the filamentous algae is rearing its ugly head in most of the lake. The water still looks really good as visibility has been on a steady decline. They were fertilizing again when I was out there a couple of Saturdays ago. Bluegill are everywhere and a small squarebill crank in bright bluegill colors also produces well. I spent some time working a deep crank in the main lake and didn’t get a nibble. The dam is either hot or cold and rarely in between. It seems like I either catch five or none when I run the dam. Focus on the creeks for a great day….. Go shallow then drop deep in the heat of the day. In my opinion this is the best value in the club by far.
Tight lines gents,
Jackson
