Two PWF members Bryan Durrett and Cortney Coe fished Timber Lake last Sat from 9:30 am (late start)  to about 6:30 pm. We did not find the fish shallow immediately after launching the boat, so remembering Jackson Bean’s report, we headed straight for the creek channel he mentioned. My second and third casts produced a 4 plus and a 5 pounder back to back. Cortney had a very large fish break him off in the same area. Jig with a large trailer were the ticket for the larger fish. We probably caught about 50 with only about 12 dinks. Jig and trailer was the most productive, especially for the larger fish. (larger fish often like larger baits)

Fishing around the obvious moss patches and timber close to the bank near the dam were productive at times as well. Weather was almost pefect and comfortable all day. The winds were just strong enough to keep us comfortable. Nice to let your fishing partner act as boat shipper sometimes….

Launching was a little trickey with the lake level being down. I recommend some rubber boots to wade into the muck to launch once the boat is loaded, including your fishing partner…. The grass drop off is very steep at the launch and we were simply launching my 10 foot Pelican by hand. Us older guys need backs on our swivel boat seats to fish all day so we used my boat rather than the ones provided….

Timber Lake is one of my club favorites. It produces many fish in the three to five pound class every trip. (4 trips now and more planned) This lake is priced right and less than 2 hours to the water from Dallas. If you like to fish timber and creeks, take the trip soon before the heat and the moss get worse…

Tight lines my friends.

Been thinking about fishing there. Is that a lake you can launch and load boat by yourself? I have a 10 ft plastic buster boat on a trailer.

I believe I could do so by myself if I had some rubber boots on that went close to my knee. Plan to launch by hand. I don’t think you could back the trailer in at all. Even with 4 wheel drive - questionable.
