Slot Fish
I took my neighbor and first time fisherman out to Timber Lake yesterday after yet another record low the night before. The bite was slower than normal but we still managed to boat close to 20. We only had one fish that was under fourteen inches and the average size was over two pounds which seems to be common out there. The feeding / spawning flat on the near side creek produced multiple quality fish once again. If you don’t know where I’m talking about you can just follow the creek channel closest to the boat launch (the big trees if you don’t have a graph) up past the metal building and you will see a transition from the 12 ft water up to 4 ft and an open area near the shoreline. There is one way in through the trees and one way out on the other side but that edge of the creek channel there holds quite a few fish.
We couldn’t fish many of the best spots due to the brisk wind which had quite a bit of bite to it. The lake still looks to be about five foot low but the boat launch is still possible. Water surface temps which were 70 degrees last week were down at 64 degrees yesterday. The lure of choice would be a toss up between Texas rigged soft plastics and top water baits. The beds that have held fish in the recent weeks were vacant yesterday.
As soon as we pulled the boat out at noon and put all of our gear away the sun came out and the wind seemed to die down. It looked like it was going to turn into a gorgeous day. Leaving the property we bumped into the land owner who was just as sweet as she could be. This lake will spoil you.
