Fished Beaver Lake for the first time Sunday from sun up to about 10:30. Caught 11, all on white buzz baits, all dinks between first light and 8:30. Switched at that time to other rigs trying to catch something bigger, and had no action on wacky rigged Senkos, C-rigged brush hogs, spinner baits, or crank baits at various depths and colors. About 10:00 I switched back to the buzzbait and caught two more in 20 minutes before leaving. Surprised me how long that bite lasted given that buzzbaits usually cool off for me once the sun is well up.
I’d recommend this lake right now for anybody wanting to take a young kid who’s learning to fish. The lake is easy to get around, it’s a nice setting, and the dam makes for a good wind break. Plus, you could have caught fish all day on the buzzbait.
One last note: make sure that you have a GPS or your Google maps ap up and running as the North County Line Road turnoff from 380 isn’t marked with a sign. Made for a little confusion when trying to get there in the dark. If going for the first time, I’d also recommend going for an afternoon reservation rather than a morning one due to difficulty finding your way around in the dark (probably a good general rule anyway).
