I took 3 guest to Hat & Star Ranch to have a little crappie tournament. It was Arkansas vs Texas (long story short Arkansas won this time)
Skies were overcast with steady 15 mph wind that kept us on the trolling motor to re-position, re-position and re-position. we fished from 7 to 7 and wouldn’t you know it that’s when the wind stopped. We caught crappie and bass all over the lake, no certain area produced more than another. I saw beds but no fish were on them.
Water conditions were 62 - 64 clear with 12 inches of visiblity. This is a very deep lake even in the coves and pockets were 8 to 10 feet
We all were using jigs and small spinners. 3 large bass over 5 lbs were caught (not by me) and released. 30 bass under 16 were caught and harvested approximately 40 lbs. We caught (well they caught) just as many crappie 56 to be exact approximately 65 pounds. These crappie where monsters.
All in all it was a great day for my 3 guest (that’s what it’s all about right? for our guest to have a good time). I stunk up the boat, I was no help to my fishing partner at all ( well I guess I was a good net man and I think I opened up the cooler effectively to put my partners catch in). It was a very bad day for me, I should have known it was going to be bad when I cast my rod and reel in the lake on my 4th or 5th cast when we first got on the lake, and it went in at the damn so it was useless to try and fish it out and then I only caught 2 fish for the entire day and almost lost one inside the boat . Hopefully my guests will become members of Private Water fishing so I can return the favor. Lol
However, it’s okay for you to laugh because my guest and I are still laughing at me about my horrible time on the lake but it was still better than being at work.

So, you caught all of these bass, including the 5 pounders using small crappie jigs and spinners?
