Spent last Saturday and Sunday fishing Saba, Good weather, a bit breezy at times but no problem for the big kahuna batteries that Ken went and got us. New chargers too! I’m telling you Ken is the best property host ever!!! What ever the issue is, if you will tell him or his forman Wade Allen they will get it done.
Fishing was slow for Saba standards, no big fish caught, but a lot seen. many fish are on the beds and they are quite busy in the contruction of them, so very difficult to catch in that mode, But right now, you should catch them good this week. I observed several bass on the beds, both fish at the same time actually spawning. If you have never seen this, it is a real treat.
We caught most of our fish on flukes and jerk baits, i caught some on a firetiger pop R. and quite a few on a swim jig.
It was really slow Saturday morning so my guest and I pulled up to the trees in the middle of the lake and dropped a crappie jig down to about 10 ft, See attached photos. YUM!
The cabin is ready for the next group. All the batteries are charged and ready. Go get em boys…

That’s a nice haul of crappy for sure!!! That’s gonna make for a fantastic fish fry! My cousin and I are fishing San Saba next month (18th-19th). I was curious where the fish were in their spawning process. I agree, they are difficult to catch in that stage. If you don’t mind, I have a question? What’s the vegetation like in the lake? Between google earth and the PWF video, it appears to have quite a bit. I’m only asking because I’d like to have “weedless” baits so I’m not picking off grass for two days.
I’m thinking I may take crappie jigs and a filet knife when we go, doesn’t get much better than fresh fried crappy!!
Thanks in advance, Eli.
