Member Nick Fowlkes and I had a great day out at Timber Lake. It was chilly in the morning with winds at 5-10 but water got up to 54 degrees. The day ended up being beautiful with sunny skies and just the right amount of wind. There are some submerged stumps right behind the boat launch that were holding fish as well as some small males that had beds in the area. We pitched the submerged tractor tires but didn’t get any bites there. As was mentioned previously, we found the key to this lake to be the two creek channels that feed into the main lake. There are TONS of brush piles deep and that’s where the majority of the fish came from. Plan on flipping timber to get the quality bites. I had one fish close to six pounds and was just over 22 inches that came from the base of one of the larger stumps. We progressed up into both creeks but didn’t catch but a few up in the shallows. The exception was one bedding male that I pitched to and one that came on some more deep brush way up in the creek channel.
We boated somewhere between 25 and 30 fish. It was a great day because only one fish needed to be culled. The numbers of 3-5 pound fish in this lake is fantastic.
I’ll say it again….. Focus on deep brush for the good bites. I’ll be back very soon!
