We got a late start on Marshall Beaver Lake Tuesday about 11 am.  I knew it would be a little tough with post-frontal conditions and high blue skies.  Steve Alexander started off throwing a Texas rigged Wave Tiki Stick while I threw a spinnerbait.  Water temp was between 52-55 degrees.

Steve catches one right off the bat on the Tiki then I catch one on the spinner.  Both were very nice fish in the 2.5 - 3 pound class.  We work around the lake and hit numerous thick brushpiles.  I pitched a black & blue jig some but never got bit.  Steve catches another nice fish in the 3 pound range then sets the hook into a really good one!

He fights the fish to the boat and I lip it for him.  Both of us estimate the fish to go between 4.5 to 5 pounds.  We weigh the fish on his digital scales and it goes 5.75 pounds!  Almost a full pound more than we guessed it!  Now I know it may be hard for some of you to believe ANY fisherman would ever guess a fish to weigh a pound LESS than it actually does but we did!  This is a testament to the quality of this fishery.  The fish are extremely thick & heavy for their length.

We decided to hit Leaky Lake at 11:00 so we ended our 3 hour session with 10 fish at Beaver.  Not bad for a “slow” day.  I conveniently forgot to mention that Steve outfished me 6 to 4 and had the BIG fish for that session but more to come….  I will write about Leaky on that lake’s site.
