Fished the afternoon- enjoyed a great outing.
Lake update -water level is down two to three feet, there still looks to be substantial weed growth in the lake going on but the weeds are way below the top of the water level at this point, so the entire lake is very fishable right now.
So on to the fishing -
Tried various techniques once I found a few fish to see what they were interested in this season, here is a brief recap-
Spinner Bates - NO
Cranks - NO - still to many weeds
Jerks - NO
Topwater - NO
Thin Shad - YES
*Plastic - YES
*little to no weight
Once I finished checking their attention span we got around to business, the bite was very soft and you needed to be using lighter line (I ended up with using my 6 pd test for constant fish hookups ) because they seemed to be just picking it up rather than hitting it. Finished the afternoon with catching 49 total.
Caught - 1 - 5pd and missed two other larger fish (early season rust, drag setting, etc) . About 1/3 of them were in the 1-1.5 pound range another 1/3 were actually in the 1.5 - 3 pound range with only a hand full coming in at the dink range. Overall all the fish were very healthy and extremely strong.
Overall a great afternoon in Giddings with the cows.

49 fish in early February in one afternoon with one person; I would say that is a great afternoon!
