Tough day at the 6-O

We got our rear ends handed to us yesterday at the 6-O.  We each boated one dink and I foul hooked a newly spawned fingerling with my crank bait.  Yep….  You heard me right.  It’s mid-Dec and I foul hooked a two inch fingerling.  Either he was just stocked or somehow a spawn happened in 58 degree water and I’m not sure that’s even possible.

The wind gradually grew worse throughout the day which made the end of the day pretty miserable.  I had high hopes for the morning being pre-front conditions but we fished for over 6 hours and only caught the two that added together might weigh over a pound.

We threw the tackle box at them - cranks, soft plastics, spinners, jigs, Tx-rigs, C-rigs, etc.  We marked some fish deep but couldn’t get them to bite.

Tight lines gents,

Jackson

Tough time of the year to boat lots of fish when bass fishing in Texas. Great time of the year to fish real slowwwww with plastics and jigs. This time of year I usually won’t fish crank baits, spinner baits, or other fast moving baits. Having said that I did catch a 9.13 two years ago in January on a spinnerbait. So it can happen.

Six O is due for a really big fish. We usually have one or two really big fish come from Six O each year. We are missing the 3 to 5 lb fish from this lake. However, 3 years ago, when we bought the club, it use to be only dinks, now; about 50% of the bass caught are 15 to 17 inches. We continue to pour resources into this lake; but with 50 acres of water; it takes a lot. We plan to be very consistent with fertilizer this year.
If you would like to participate in helping fertilize; I could use your help. Please call me at the office for details. Great way to learn a little about pond management. I will teach you, it is really easy; it just takes the consistency and resources.  I will need someone who can commit about 1 hour once a month from April to November.

Good time of year to chase Stripers and wait for the spring to chase Black Bass in my book.

Merry Christmas to all. Maybe Santa will bring that special lure. Can you say Dynomite!

We spent most of our time crawling jigs along the bottom and dead-sticking soft plastics.  I typically throw deep diving cranks until the water is below 55 with quite a bit of success but that wasn’t the case that day.  As we all know, sometimes they just don’t bite.

Keep my number handy Steve.  I’m off every Wednesday and would enjoy coming to help and learning a little bit.

Tight lines,

Jackson

Thanks Jackson. Will do. Matt Linn a member since 1998 agreed to help a few days ago. However, we may need some help on other lakes.

Thanks

Steve
