Went with a buddy to Toby Lake, we had a great day! On the water just after 7am and off the water at 2pm. We caught over 50 up to 4.6lbs with lots of fish in the 3-4lb range, all well over 100% relative weight, very healthy and strong. The water is very fertile green with a tinge of cloudiness, some vegetation throughout the lake but plenty of open water and with 150 acres to cover, no shortage of targets to try.
We had the most luck along the damn and the bank / cove opposite the ramp. Best numbers and largest fish came on a silver spinner bait; one of the fish we caught spit up a small crappie so the silver spinner bait closely matched that and they were hammering it; also had good luck on chatterbait with white trailer. As the moving bite slowed we kept up consistent catch rates with Tx rig red bug lizard, jig and wacky senko (purple with emerald flake was best color). Tried topwater frog and yellow magic early with some blow ups but no commitment. Also tried lipless and square bill crankbaits but no luck on those.
We explored the entire lake, if we had stayed in the most productive areas would likely have upped our numbers significantly and caught some bigger kicker fish. The trees produced a couple of nice fish but the bite was definitely slower on that end. Isolated timber through the middle section of the lake produced some fish as well. Cove next to the ramp was suprisingly not productive.
We used my friend’s big Ranger and had no problem launching it on the ramp. He is getting his Live Scope dialed in and it was fun to watch him target some big ones on brush piles 10-20ft off the damn on our second pass through that area. He got a couple of solid fish and coaxed a couple of big ones into bites on his juggle minnow but they missed the hook and kept the tail…just know there are some big ones in there. I had fished the lake before but didn’t have great electronics then so it was amazing to see how much structure there is and how many solid fish there are throughout the lake. Great place and if you haven’t been there yet, definitely worth the trip!

Sounds like a blast!! This lake is still on my list to fish and need to find an Airbnb nearby so I can drive up the night before.
