Decided last minute to fish this morning at JZS Ranch which is 20 minutes from the house.  As a result, I Ieft the kayak at home and planned to bank fish the four ponds on the property. Weather was perfect with temps in the 70’s and a slight northern breeze.  Definitely felt like Fall fishing with Summer temps behind us.

I fished the small pond closest to the entrance first. The pond has been reworked since the last time I fished the property.  The water clarity was very poor.  I assumed the dirt work at the berm contibuted to the poor visibility.  I ran into my first snake while circling the pond.  Despite the poor clarity, I did manage to catch a few fish off an H&H spinnerbait with zero bites on topwater.

Next I fished the 2^nd pond which had much clearer water.  I caught numerous fish with the H&H after switching to a white color.  Here I ran into my 2^nd snake laying on the bank.  Shortly thereafter I unexpectantly flushed a covey of quail which got the heart pumping as well.  Good to see the quail as they try to make a comeback in Eastern Oklahoma.

Finally, I fished the two larger eastern ponds.  The pond on the North side was completely cloudy with zero visibility.  Not sure of the cause based on no substantial recent rain that I was aware of.  Zero fish caught.  Moved over to the South pond which had better visibility and began catching fish.  Switched to a chatter bait with crawtail trailer and caught a few bigger fish.

The last hour I moved over to the smaller pond again with better water clarity and caught several fish on an underspin/white swimbait.

All in all. a total of 27 fish caught before noon.  No lunkers but a good fishing trip nonetheless.
