Nice day on the water this past Sunday 9/7 with my good friend and Bass Assassin fishing buddy, Scott Wheeler.  The surprise on this trip was the fact the weather was so perfect this early in September – we couldn’t remember a time we fished this quickly after our barn burning summers.

The lake delivered what you normally find; stained water, down about 2/3 feet, shallow expanse left of the boat launch around 2/3 feet and water temps 75-80 degrees.   We had a mostly cloudy day with full sun around 3pm, getting temps just around 80 degrees.  We were on the water about 6:30am and tried some topwater out of the gate.  It was pretty evident most of the fish weren’t holding anywhere, but chasing bait all over the lake.  The big fish came from the flats next to the damn and just in front of the “No Fish Zone” in about 4/5 foot of water.  The 3.9 and 3.5 were pulled out of the two brush piles direclty in front of the boat ramp.  The rest of they day was a lot of site casting to blow-ups that took a damikie rig, drop shot, or swimbait – or, trailing bait fish and thowing lures in hopes a passer-by would give chase.  Over half the fish were caught closer to the middle of the lake around brush piles or right after a blow up on the surface.  Things slowed down from 1230-2pm, but picked back up from 3pm on…No strikes (outside of two crappie) were found in water less than 3 ft and they wanted something middle of the water column….I tried a Texas Rig several times with no interest.  I’ve heard Septmeber is the worst month to bass fish…..not the case today – it was a decent trip.

Cheers all!

Great report Steve.

you're right I can't remember have Temps like these this early in September.

a fall preview of what's coming

glad we took advantage of this day

Yes those fis were hanging in deeper waters

well as deep as they can get in Tara anyway,

don't think I caught anything that was above

4ft depth, that seemed to be the only consistent pattern..

It's always good to fish with you brother

and I look forward to our next trip.

Tight Lines My Friend.
