Reservation Number : 44425
Property Name : Sand Pit
Reservation Date : 08/29/2025 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 26
Lures Used : Plastics

Wife and I fished 8/29 getting on the water around 7 am. Very challenging boat launch. Had to park at top hill and slide boat down to water and then carry everything down to boat. Took both of us to get it back up to truck.
Started with topwaters and had couple good blowups. Laura switched to plastics and stared catching, I tried lots of other baits with no luck. Went around lake and all fish caught away from the banks. Ended day trolling middle and Laura caught 3 nice ones on crank bait. Shallowest water found was 9’ and most areas were 15’ to 25’.
Tried posting on Friday with pictures but would not download and go thru. Caught 26+ with a couple of 3#’s and all faught good.

Great day!  An idea for you. I always carry a good length of rope to assist with Just what you had issue with. Easy to slide boat down a hill. Between rope n vehicle makes it easy. Had to do that at Willow Lake last year.

John,

I was going to pull boat up with rope and truck but wife just told me to grab the rope and pull. Wasn't that hard with 2 people but by myself would have to use truck to pull up. I was on the level part of top and still had no traction.
Next time we go out there I will concentrate on trolling deep diving cranks. Found some from the 90’s in my stuff and put new hooks on. I will also spend a lot of time using the old Carolina rigs, found some 1 oz weights and already have them rigged up. Lake is pretty cool and when we came across trolling, the bottom of the lake was covered in fish on my depth finder.
we are wanting to get back out there when it cools and fish come up out of the deep water. There are probably some big fish in there. Laura also caught a snakehead that was around 24” long and gave her a great fight. She thought she had a huge bass.

So is the launch area soft sand or mud? I do have 4 wheen drive if sandy but wondering. I have a bit of trouble dragging my kayak but I do have wheels for the kayak but maybe if too soft sand, that would not work?

Dale,

The sand is very soft but that's what made it easier to get back up the hill, 10’ buster just slid right up. I will bring rope next time if go by myself and pull up with that. Liked dealing with that instead of mud. Wheels might be challenging unless they are big, small might just sink in soft sand in a few spots.
Next trip I will be prepared to fish deep. When water cools down some then mornings will be really good when they move up to shallows. The tree in water across the lake held good fish, caught 3 there and where boat was sitting in 25’ of water the bottom showed fish stacked up. Pic is from bottom of the hill, top is 20’ higher.

That actually may have been a bowfin. They do look similar. Would like to see a pic of that fish.

I agree with John. Likely a bowfin. I have not seen or heard of snakeheads in Texas waters. Probably a matter of time. But would be very unusual. Snakeheads and bowfins are easily confused.
