Ron Dupree and I had a fun time fishing Hickory Creek Ranch but never found any of the resident larger bass. The largest number of bass were mostly 10-12” in length and were driving shad onto the dam. Small swimbaits were the best at catching them and the catching was steady until they abruptly cut off late in the morning.  The ocassional larger bass that grabbed a lure made this harvesting spree more exciting.  The other location that yielded good numbers was around the island.  This is where Ron caught the big of the day.  We ended up landing 45 bass of which 27 were harvested.  Most of the others were 14-16”.  In the mid-morning period, the middle of the lake showed many suspended fish on the graph, both baitfish and what we interpretted based upon vertical stacking patterns as crappie and bass.  We caught a few but it was tough to get these to bite and when we came back later they were gone/scattered.

The main lake has been drawn down maybe 18-20” for maintenance so the water isn’t reaching to the shoreline reeds.  Water was green stained and 84-87 degrees.

Another fun time at a great location.  Maybe we will find big ones next trip.
