We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dub Nix, beloved owner of Nix Ranch just outside of Tioga, Texas, and a cherished member of the Private Water Fishing family.

For so many of our members, a trip to Nix Ranch was more than just a fishing outing — it was a chance to spend time with Dub. His warm welcome, genuine kindness, and unmatched generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Simply put, Dub was the kind of person you never forgot.

Whether you were a first-time visitor or a returning guest, Dub treated you like an old friend. Conversations with him were as memorable as the catches pulled from the lake. He had a way of making you feel like you belonged, that you were part of something special — and you were.

Dub had a heart for people and a gift for thoughtful gestures. Many of our members were touched to receive a handmade plaque from him, crafted with barbed wire in the shape of Texas with the college they attended — a deeply personal and unexpected gift that reflected the care and attention he gave to everyone he met.

His legacy will live on through the waters of Nix Ranch, in the friendships formed there, and in the many stories and memories shared by those who knew him.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Dub’s family and all who loved him. May we each honor his memory with kindness, generosity, and a shared appreciation for the land and community he nurtured.

Tight lines, Dub. Thank you for everything. You will be dearly missed.

One of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. I truly enjoyed talking with him as much as fishing his lake. You should have seen how excited he got if you pulled in a fish while talking with him. He was like a proud father watching over to his awesome lake. He truly became a great friend to me. He once gave me hand carved prayer hands from his trip to Israel and I gave him a pearl handled pocket knife in return. I will continue fishing his awesome property but it will never be as much fun. God speed Dub. You will be missed.
