Drove all the way from Cedar Hill to Wills Point in a blindly fierce thunderstorm where sane people were pulling over or creeping along w/ their hazards flashing. But not me, I had my Bass Raider loaded up and a lake to get to. Got to the lake as the storm was letting up to a steady rain around 6:15am but there was still thunder and lightning in the distance so I elected to fish a little from the bank before getting on the water. Caught a couple and missed a couple between the loading area and the laydown tree to the left. Once the storm passed, I loaded up the boat and was out on the water before 7am. Water was 86 degrees and very clear to at least 5’ with a noticable thermocline at 20’. I fished till a little after 1pm with only a few more fish (including the first catfish I’ve ever caught out here). Biggest fish on Little A was 2lbs 14oz. Tried everything I could think of but no pattern and couldn’t get them interested even when I found fish to target. I took a lunch break in Edgewood (Lumber Yard Cafe is very good), then decided to finish out the afternoon on Wildcard. I thought I was in for an epic afternoon as there were signs of topwater feeding and busting shad all over the pond. Got hooked up to the biggest fish of the day so far on a minimax chatterbait where they were busting bait, but he shook off halfway to the boat. That was a bad omen because while I could find fish all over and numerous baitballs both submerged and busting the surface, I could not get any fish interested in my offerings. Maybe they just had too much “real” food to choose from, but I junk fished the whole tackle box from before 3pm to about 8pm and couldn’t get any steady action. The fish I did catch were all quality with only 2 harvesters. Lost 2 that would have been over 4lbs on the chatterbait, landed a 3.5 on a Ned rig, and 5.25 (biggest of the day) on a curly tail worm. All in all, glad to have been able to fish at all considering the starting weather. Thanks PWF and land owners for giving us great fishing opportunities.
