The water was quite muddy and the bite was very slow.  The lake looks to be a few feet below full pool and the road was a bit tricky to navigate but a full size trucks makes easy work of it.  My expectations were really high from the few weeks prior and needless to say it was a bit disappointing.  We fished from sun up to about 3:30 and literally threw the tackle box at them.  We boated nine fish with the black and blue football head putting the most fish in the boat.  Crawling it over rocks did the best.  We tried Senkos, cranks, flukes, C-rigs, T-rigs, drop shots, topwater, swim baits, wake baits, wacky rigs, etc,  Our largest fish was three pounds and the property was really beautiful but it was a pretty good drive from the other side of the metroplex.

I plan to go back there in the spring. It is one of the most beautiful remote areas I’ve ever seen in Texas. I understand that lake stays muddy looking, and the road can definitely be challenging. We had a fair outing on our trip with the highlight being my son losing two very large fish. So the lake does have some big fish but finding them can be challenging.

That’s actually exactly what I was waiting on.  If some members go down and have a good day while establishing some kind of pattern, I’ll be headed back for another trip.  I had just fished the 9G a few weeks prior and a gorgeous lake in OK right before.  Crystal clear water in both lakes and TONS of boated fish.  I think I had my hopes up reading the description.  I’m looking forward to hearing how some of you guys do in the spring.  All of those rocky banks HAVE to hold some spawning fish.

In my opinion, Bowie Back Side of the Moon is a top 15 lake and possibly a top 10 lake. I have fished it 4 times and shocked it once. I have never had a slow day. Never had a day where I caught 50 fish, but 1/2 days of catching 10-20 fish is common. Moreover, all four times I fished I caught at least 1 fish of 4 lbs or better.

The lake stays muddy because the lake faces due North or South and has lots of shallow water at the North end. That wind combined with the shallow water creates the turbidity in the water. I know for some that is a turn off, but remember clear water is sterile water. Clear water has little food production. Muddy water is not good either, but water with visibility of 15 to 24 inches is best.

If you like it remote and rugged terrain, this lake should go to the top of your list.
