I decided last minute to try to get a mid-afternoon/evening of fishing in, so reached out to my buddy and fellow member Mark Daugherty to see if he could join me at Malouf.  I arrived before him, and caught 2 bass and 1 green sunfish in my first several casts from the ramp with an underspin while I was waiting for him.  I figured I had the first cast/first fish curse off me, but I should have known better.  Before we even got out on the water I had managed to step into a hole next to the ramp swamping my boot, swamping the other boot unloading the bass raider, and have the handle of my giant NOT Waterproof Plano tacklebox come off soaking all my tackle trays.  Just a few of the equipment snafu’s to mention (like my Livescope transducer conking out) as a warning to not tempt the fishing gods.  Mark on the other hand did not anger them, and I got to witness him put on a clinic as he pulled in quantity and quality all afternoon/evening.  He boated 33 fish himself mostly on a spinnerbait or a crankbait (med. diving and squarebill) as well as a few on the chatterbait.  His only offering to the gods for this awesome display was not being able to boat his last fish of the evening which would have easily been the biggest of the day.  It had the single treble hook of his crankbait trying to hold a 4+ lber, and as we tried to lip her at the boat she shook off (probably my fault for trying to help).  Mine is not a total sob story as I was able to boat 22 fish myself but none of the quality fish over 2lbs.  So, combined we had one heck of an afternoon session from about 3:45pm to 8:30pm filled with the “thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat”.  Conditions: sunny and upper 90’s made more than bearable by a stiff southerly breeze till dusk, water was a beautiful green stain but clear to at least 3’.  Healthy grassline around the entire perimeter.  Glad to be able to get out and enjoy God’s creation and catch a few with my buddy.  Thanks to PWF and the landowner for a great lake to fish.
