My guest and I fished from 6:30am under overcast and calm conditions with even an unexpected 5 minute rain shower. The pads and coontail are plentiful and the water was tea colored with about 2-3’ visibiltiy and 83-84 degrees throughout the day. Tried the frog in the pads in the morning and got a bunch of blow-ups but only 1-2 hookups (my fault mostly). My buddy was throwing a weightless small swimbait all morning into the pads and grass and had a bunch of hits but also misses. When we did hook up it wasn’t a guarantee we’d land the fish as we lost several in the thick coontail. We made our way around the lake working the grassline and shore catching a few here and there and missing a bunch. My guest had to leave early for a work thing, but I stayed and fished till about 6:15pm. The sun came out, the wind picked up and the bite dried up in the early afternoon. I moved out to deeper water and graphed a bunch of fish all suspened in 10’ of water, but couldn’t find anything that would trigger them, so I took another shore break to get some shade and lunch. I went back out around 3:30pm in search of a shade pocket and found the magic spot in the cove just to the left of the boat ramp. I caught a fish or two on a swimbait and decided I’d try to clean up another one with a Tx rigged stick bait. Bingo, there was the school of fish and the presentation combo. I proceeded to catch mulltiple fish and the biggest of the day with several over 2lbs, a couple over 3lbs and one just shy of 4lbs. I stayed in that spot for over an hour until I went to check to see if there was another shady spot like it further toward the dam area. There wasn’t, and so I went back and caught maybe one more before giving in to my oncoming migraine and the thought of loading up solo with a long drive home. I’ve had a few very memorable days at this lake, and this afternoon flurry will be one of those I’ll look back on for a long time. Thanks PWF and land owner for the great lake to get to fish.
