It was our first time visiting this lake, and I took my teenage son there for Father's Day. Since there was no boat ramp, we had to figure out how to launch our 11-foot Twin Troller. Although it's on a trailer and can be lifted, it's still quite heavy. The designated boat launch area was shallow and muddy, so I found a better spot near the deer feeder. This location was ideal because the water drops off nicely, and the rocky area prevented any ruts.
Once we were on the water, my son cast a jig and landed a solid 3.5-pounder. I followed up with a weightless worm and caught a 4-pounder on my second cast. However, the clouds quickly rolled in, the wind picked up, and the rain drove us off the lake after just 15 minutes of fishing. We waited in the truck until the rain let up a bit.
When it did, I jumped out and threw a topwater frog, catching another good fish. I handed my pole to my son, and we continued fishing from the bank with the topwater frog. My son landed a 6-pounder about 12 feet out from the shore. As the rain and lightning returned and radar showing rain for several hours, we decided to call it a day. Didnt get to explore the whole lake, but liked what we did fish. Will be back soon.
