It has been several years since I have gone to Athens NE.  The grass carp have really cleaned up the lake.  I was actually able for first time to make it almost to the end of the creek. When pulling up to ramp area 2 half grown hogs went running off into the woods.  Decided to wait a minute to make sure more were not waiting for me to get out of truck.

Weather forecast was calling for a windy day but I was hoping starting soon after sunrise I might have a little time before it got windy but that was not the case and was blowing 10-15 mph.  Tried a topwater along the bank and missed a couple of bites due to slack in the line.  Water at dam was somewhat protected so headed that way and almost immediately had an explosion.  Got a hook set this time and fished swam around my little bass raider a couple of times before i could get next to the boat.  Decided not to grab a net and as I reached for a lip the line brook and probably a 5-6#er and my bait went back to the depths.  Stayed in the rea for a while hoping to see it resurface and ended up boating a 4#+.  Like a previous report I did catch two that may have been 5”s on a underspin.

Started fighting wind making rounds on rest of lake with the underspin and lost at least 6-7 when they made a jump. Finished up around 1 pm as the temp got high enough and the wind continued to swirl around the lake and the bites were few and far between. Tried a plastic worm but with boat making circles with the wind made it hard to fish slow.

There was a Canadian goose sitting on a nest on the beaver hut across the lake from ramp and near the powerline crossing. Also saw a catfish of at least 8-10#s cruising the back towards dam from ramp.

Water temp was 83-84 and visibility 2-3 feet.
