Ron Dupree and I had a good time catching bass at BlackJack Ranch on Friday. The lake is about 2 feet low but the vegetation was much less than we expected (based on last several summers). Water visibility is 18-20 inches, much less than it has been, and slightly green with suspended organics. A rim of semi-matted vegetation about 12-15 feet wide surrounds the lake but the pier area and most of the lake is very fishable.  There are areas where the vegetation is still several feet below the surface and large areas with only scattered clumps. The shallow northern end has heavier matted vegetation and we tried to get a frog bite going there but never got a single blowup. We started from the pier and had success using soft plastic swimbaits, RageTail Menace, and chatterbaits.  We launched the boat and fished the outside edge of the heavier vegetation and the clumpy areas in deeper water.  We had steady action until about noon when it slowed down some.  We left at 2 PM. We ended up landing 58 bass (19 harvested and quite a few lost in the weeds) with 1.5 to 2# being the norm with enough 3 pounders thrown in to make it interesting.  No big ones today. Soft plastic swimbaits on a jig head were the best producer followed by ligthty-weighted swimworms and creature baits.  A few were caught on chatterbaits, underspins, and squarebills.
