Heartbrand used to be my favorite lake but I understand there was a fish kill a few years ago. The past two seasons have been very disappointing. Based on today’s results, Heartbrand is back! I fished from 8:00-2:00. Water visibility was low; the skies threatened rain all day and it was windy. I started on the fishing pier and in the first 30 minutes I landed a 3.8 pound bass, caught on a spinner. The rest of the day was in a kayak working the entire lake. There was no pattern and I caught fish randomly throughout the morning. I ended up with three bass at 3.8 pounds a piece. I caught a nice 2.5, a 2.0 and several 1 pounders. Fish were caught in all parts of the lake except the middle. My go-to lure is a midnight blue speckled 6-inch worm and it was working today. My next best producer was a Mepps silver spinner which even produced two 1-pound cats. Total fish – 12. Heartbrand is a beautiful property and I’m delighted the fish production is back.

I am just into year number 5 in the club. There is a lake 45 minutes from me (it is one of my favorites and the first club lake I fished and almost got skunked, but also have had 2 25lb+ days five fish). Seen this lake go to famine low levels twice, and then turn around with the proper rainfall to flood it. Last outing there was fantastic. It was extremely low last year. Deepest when full 11-12 feet 19 acres dwindles down to 4-5 deep and 8 acres maybe. I am referring to Tara. One thing I know is bass are resilient. Even in a harsh eco system, but they can recover. Glad to hear the lake is back.
