I’ve been to this property twice previously. On my first visit I took a wrong route trying to find the west lake and almost got stuck in wet, rutted ground just as the sun was rising (note: don’t arrive here pre-dawn if it’s your first visit as the paths aren’t obvious). My second visit I fished the east lake first only for it to get cold and rainy before I could move to the west lake. This time I made it to the west lake! I found it a little tricky to locate but well worth the effort. It’s a very nice, secluded spot offering some variety, more in structure than in depth of water. I arrived at 715 and was on the water at 730. The weather was fantastic. The water was clear with visibility to around three feet. The bite was solid early and I landed 12 in my first couple of hours. The bit slowed after 10. I fished until around 600. The bit was picking back up at that point, but the fish were small. I ended up landing 25 LMB and had another dozen or so shake loose or miss on the hook set—I suspect most of these were small and could actually see that with a few. I also had a couple of big bites where the fish siimply tore my bait iin half and left. This lake may benefit from some harvesting based upon what I experienced. I found the coon grass made anything traveling underwater that wasn’t weedless (e.g., bladed jig, lipless crank) a poor choice, ineffective and not worth the effort. Finally, to totally bury the headline, I landed a 6.7lb’er just a bit shy of 24” on a topwater around 800. That was fun. It was also the only fish I caught over 2 lbs.
