Fished Friday afternoon with my brother . It was a decent half day, but not great. The only thing we could get any bites on were Texas rigs and Senkos. We ended up with 8 under 12 inches and 6 between 12 and 15 inches. I believe a mild cool front had passed through Wednesday night. The skies were still very clear and the wind somewhat out of the north, so I'm not surprised the fish weren't aggressive.
We used the blue fiberglass boat. It’s much more comfortable than the small pontoon style boats also available, but there is an ant problem in it. My brother got bitten a number of times by ants that infested the back of the boat. I didn’t have any problem up on the front deck. Funny thing, they didn’t really get to him until pretty late, so he thought it was mosquitoes, doused himself with OFF, then griped about how it wasn’t doing any good. Meanwhile, I was totally bite free and hadn’t used any bug spray. Maybe the land owner could throw some ant-bait stations in the boat. I expect that would take care of them, unless they’re fire ants.
Also, there is a rudder on the boat mounted in a trolling motor bracket. The bracket does not tighten down enough to keep the rudder from flopping around, making the boat very difficult to keep straight. I was able to wedge a spinnerbait blade against the rudder shaft, inside the bracket, which did the trick of taking up space and allowing me to lock the rudder in place, but I don’t know how long that will hold up.
