My 17 year old son and I fished Deer Trail on Tuesday. He does not have a lot of bass fishing experience. The two previous posters had 100 fish days, so we had pretty high expectaions, That was not the case for us. We got there just after sunrise, but there was no top water bite. We started throwing craws and Senko’s, and they were hitting those. Nothing on spinnerbaits and, due to the weediness, crankbaits or. swimbaits would have gotten hung up a lot. My son got his PB along the dam. The fish got wrapped in a branch, and he had to get down on his belly to unwrap it. Fortunately we didn’t lose it. So, he got the full bass fishing experience. We ended up with about 30. Only one dink, and the rest were all really healthy fish from 2-4 pounds. The females were full of eggs, and we only caught one with a beat up tail, so they are on the verge of spawning. At around sunset, my son had a big blowup on a whopper plopper, and it looked like we might get some good evening top water action. Then the trolling motor battery died, and we ended up using our rods to pole our way back to the boat ramp. Could have been worse if it was windy or if we were in deeper water. Overall, a good day with healthy fish. Just wish we would have caught 100!

The 12th was a challenge too. I always carry 2 paddles with me. One long wooden one, and one aluminum telescoping one. For just such reasons! :-)
