I fished the Tear Drop Lakes for first time after a few trips to the larger lake at Bluebonnet. I really enjoyed bank fishing the three lakes and will certainly do it again. It was nice not fighting the wind in a small boat. I was very leery of snakes and fire ants as I walked the banks since I was wearing shorts and sandals. I only saw one small snake as I manuvered to avoid the fire ant hills. Something quite large—far too big to be a turtle—did dive into the corner of the middle pond just after I walked past. I didn’t catch a glimpse of what it was. This property is generally so well groomed it was fairly easy to walk completely around each lake and land fish safely. I fished plastics, mainly creature baits on a t-rig, and the fishing were biting—25 total in roughly six hours of fishing. I landed 8 on upper, 13 on mid, and 4 more during a half trip around lower. Most of the fish I caught were in the 2 lb. range but I did have a handful right around 4 lb. Almost all were good fighters. While windy, it was a lot of fun…and provided a bit of exercise. One lesson from Captain Obvious for others new to bank fishing: take something with you to carry extra plastics, hooks, your scale, etc. as you walk & fish. It sucks to be halfway around a lake and realize you have to “return to base” when you locate a hot spot.
